1st and 2nd Grade Book Exchange!

Today the first and second graders are going to read each other’s Winter Books and we are going to leave comments for each other.

We are also doing a book exchange with Mrs. Goodwin’s 2nd grade class from South Adams Elementary School in Berne, Indiana.  They are reading our books and we are reading their book From the Desk of Kid Presidents.  We are hoping to do a Skype between our second graders and their class in a few weeks.

Here is a link to their blog where you can download their book:

Two free eBooks Looking for a K-3 Audience!

Snowman Book Cover

Our first and second graders recently published winter eBooks online for free download.  We have been excited to share our books with family and friends, but we are hoping that we can connect with even a wider “Authentic Audience” around the world.  We would love for other students and classes to download our book.  If you do, could you please leave us a comment so we can know who has been reading our books!

If you have a class that has created an eBook, we would love to do a book exchange with you! Please leave a comment with a link to the book file or contact Miss Bosch via email at kbosch@southfieldchristian.org.

To download the files you will need to use an iPhone, iPod, or iPad with the free iBooks app installed on it. Touch the link to the book below, then touch download, wait for the book to download (may take several minutes), and then select to open it in iBooks.  Here are the links:

If you do not have an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, on a Mac computer the book can be opened using iBooks software.  On a PC computer, try using the Chrome browser with the Readium app to download/view the file.  If you have an Android phone, you might be able to use the ePub Reader app, or another app for ePub files.  (I have not tested this on an Android, so I cannot verify that this will work.)

Our stories were made in computer lab using KidPix software. Miss Bosch printed and photographed all the stories and put them into the wonderful Book Creator app where each student made an audio recording of their story.

Book Creator is currently available for $4.99 for iOS, and is scheduled to be released for Android in the near future.  There is a lite version which will let you try out the app and create one book.

We are planning to submit our book to the iTunes bookstore for free publication in the near future!  (Parents, please look for the note coming home with information about this publication.)

Food Chains using the Popplet App

Recently the third graders used iPads to create a food chain using the Popplet app on the iPad.  Students first searched and downloaded pictures.  Then they used Popplet to create a word map illustrating their food chain.  Here is a gallery showing their food chains – click on an image to see it larger.

Popplet Lite is available for free on iTunes and will let you create one Popplet. It is very easy for students to use!   The full version of Popplet that lets you create more projects and has additional features is currently $4.99.
