2nd Grade Guppy Bowl eBook

guppybowlcover.update

I’m delighted to share that our second graders’ eBook, “The Guppy Bowl”, is now available for free download on 50 iTunes stores all over the world!

The “Guppy Bowl” was inspired by the Shark Tank TV show. Students were challenged to identify a problem that a second grader might have, then design and write about an invention (realistic or imaginary) that would solve the problem.

For iPhone, iPod, or Mac Computer: To download the files you will need to use an iPhone, iPod, or iPad with the free iBooks app installed on it (or into iBooks software on a Mac computer). Here is the link to download the book: The Guppy Bowl iTunes version

For other devices: If you do not have an iPhone, iPod, or iPad, here are some other ways you can possibly open the books by using the links below.  On a PC computer, try using the Chrome browser with the Readium app to download/view the file.  If you have an Android phone, you might be able to use the ePub Reader app, or another app for ePub files.  (I have not tested this on an Android, so I cannot verify that this will work.) Our stories were made in computer lab using KidPix software. Miss Bosch printed and scanned all the stories and put them into the wonderful Book Creator app where each student made an audio recording of their story.

Book Creator is currently available for $4.99 US for iOS. There is a lite version which will let you try out the app and create one book. It also is available for Android and Windows.

We have been excited to share our books with family and friends, but we are hoping that we can connect with even a wider “Authentic Audience” around the world.  We would love for other students and classes to download our book.  If you do, could you please leave us a comment so we can know who has been reading our books!

If you have a class that has created an eBook, we would love to do a book exchange with you! Please leave a comment with a link to the book file or contact Miss Bosch via email at kbosch@southfieldchristian.org

Drawing Pad Story Illustrations by 4th Grade

IMG_6288

Mrs. Swanson’s 4th graders have started working on making eBooks out of stories they have written. Miss Bosch visited their classes this week to help them get started with using the iPads to draw illustrations for their stories. Each student needs to create four illustrations using the Drawing Pad app to go along with their story. As you can see, their talents are really shining as they work on their drawings! Here are a few shots of the students at work. Click on each image to see a larger view!

Drawing Pad is one of my favorite drawing apps for elementary students. It has many creative features including richly textured drawing tools, stickers, and the ability to add text. It currently is $1.99 on the US iTunes store.

After the illustrations are done, students will be using the Book Creator app to create pages out of their story which will include their illustrations, text, and audio.

Second Grade Community Stories

FullSizeRenderThe second graders have recently been learning about communities in social studies. They used a variety of tools in KidPix to draw the kind of community they wanted to live in and used text tools to write about it. Since this project took 2 weeks, they also had to learn to save and open files.  Here are a few examples of their illustrated stories.

SPOKEnPHOTO is currently free on iTunes.  It is an easy app to use if you want a way to publish a collection of narrated images to the internet.

1st and 2nd Grade Book Exchange!

Today the first and second graders are going to read each other’s Winter Books and we are going to leave comments for each other.

We are also doing a book exchange with Mrs. Goodwin’s 2nd grade class from South Adams Elementary School in Berne, Indiana.  They are reading our books and we are reading their book From the Desk of Kid Presidents.  We are hoping to do a Skype between our second graders and their class in a few weeks.

Here is a link to their blog where you can download their book:
