Guest Speaker – Mr. Bono

Yesterday we ended our first quarter class with the 6th graders with a special speaker. Mr. Bono from Canfield ( spoke to the students about creative careers in technology. He showed students some amazing examples of videos and websites that he has created with his company. He also shared ways he has used his talents to give back to the city of Detroit and to help with church planting in cities. Students were challenged to think out of the box.  We definitely were inspired by his visit!

Evaluating Websites 10/14

Students, we will use the links listed below as part of this lesson.  Please write your responses on the the worksheet.

Go to one of these links.  On your worksheet write one or two things that you learned from the site:

Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus
Lake Michigan Whale Watching
Jackalope Conspiracy

Please watch this video and use the worksheet to take notes.  Write down the meanings of website endings and the A, B, C, D, and E of evaluating websites. Then write a sentence or two explaining what each one means.  (Ignore the instructions at the end of the video.)
Go to each of these links.  Use your worksheet to evaluate each website:
If time: Please leave a comment of 2 sentences telling me what you learned today about evaluating websites.

Fruit of the Spirit PowerPoints 10/14

Students, you did an outstanding job on your PowerPoint presentations! I enjoyed looking at them and hearing your presentations.  Please leave a 3 sentence comment reflecting on what you learned, evaluating yourself, and giving me any suggestions for the project in the future.

  • What new skills did you learn about using PowerPoint?
  • What did you learn about ways to design a good and a bad looking presentation?
  • How did you feel about giving your presentation in front of the class?
  • What things would you try to improve next time you make and give a presentation?
  • Do you have any suggestions how the teacher could improve this project for next time?

Thank you for your comment.  It is a part of your daily participation grade.

Link to MAP Test Tutorials

Our last major project this quarter will be to create tutorials for vocabulary words that are on the MAP test using the Knowmia Teach app. Here is the link to videos that have been created by former sixth graders. Please watch at least 2 reading tutorials and 2 math tutorials to get some ideas. Be prepared to discuss what worked on the tutorials and what could be improved. This will help you plan a tutorial that will be amazing!
