As a final project after completing and printing our Life Logo designs, the sixth-grade students used the Apple Clips app to create a video where they shared about their project. Students used Clips to show photos/videos of their project, talk about the process of how they designed their key chain, reflect on how they solved problems, and evaluate any improvements they could make. Students came up with lots of creative ways to use Clips to share about their projects. Here are a few examples:

Here is a link to a gallery with the completed videos. (Note: additional videos will be added as they are completed or corrected. Students, if your video is not posted and was corrected, let me know so I can add it.)

3D Printing Life Logo Designs with the Morphi App and Dremel Printers

The sixth graders have been working over the past few weeks to design a “Life Logo” keychain using the Morphi app to be printed on our Dremel 3D Printers. Here’s a video explaining the premise of the project:

Students followed this collection of online tutorials to self-direct their learning as they built their designs using the Morphi EDU app. Morphi allows students many creative design options including building with shapes, text, and making drawings that convert into 3D!.

This year we have 13 Apple Pencils which the students used while designing their logos.

In this project, we talked about F.A.I.L. – First Attempt In Learning. Part of our design process was “iteration” where students evaluated their first design, made corrections and improvements, and then printed version 2.0. Here are a few examples showing the evolution of their designs:

It’s been fun to watch students use design skills and problem solve throughout this activity. Here are some of the finished Life Logo Keychain examples!

Next, students will be building videos using the Apple Clips app to make a video to share and reflect on their projects!

Disclosure: As a part of the 2016/17 Dremel 3D Idea Builder Ambassadors program, our school received use of a 3D40 printer. If you are interested in learning more about the Dremel Idea Builder 3D40 printer, you may contact https://3dprinter.dremel.com/education-request.  I’d appreciate it if you noted Karen Bosch/this blog post as a referral in the comments/questions section at the bottom of the form.  Thanks!

Psalm Videos October 2018

Over the past few weeks, the seventh-grade students have been creating videos based on words from a verse from the Psalms. After learning about Creative Commons Copyright, students used copyright friendly websites to find images and music for their video. They then used iMovie to add the photos, used the Ken Burns effect to add movement to the still images, and then added titles, credits, and music. This is always one of my favorite projects – the videos are beautiful and truly reflect God’s creation.

Below are posted the videos that had no proofreading mistakes. (I will post additional videos as students make corrections.)
