For our La Posada, or Mexican Christmas party, the students went to stations where they completed a stick-puppet nativity scene, made a tissue paper star, and decorated and ate a sugar cookie. After donning their Mexican outfits, they were led in a procession through the hallways by Senor Pedro as they sang Christmas songs, including Feliz Navidad. They went to several classrooms asking if there was room in the inn for them to stay. The answer was always “NO.” Eventually, they ended up in the gym where they were greeted by a friendly voice who let them in. They discovered a piñata and after everyone had a chance to hit it with a stick, it finally broke open leaving everyone scrambling for treats. The morning concluded with a light lunch consisting of tacos, chips and salsa, fruit, and hot chocolate with marshmallows. It was a wonderful way to begin the season of Christmas!
