Talking Snowmen using Drawing Pad and ChatterPix Kids app

Welcome back to school after 3 days of extra vacation due to a huge snow storm and freezing cold!  The snow days totally messed up what was scheduled in the lab, so I decided to have some classes try out some new activities on the iPads.  Mrs. Bennefield’s class used the Drawing Pad and the ChatterPix Kids apps to create talking snowmen.  The snowmen tell you what they think about the weather we have been having!   Here are a few examples of their videos:

Drawing Pad (currently $1.99) is one of the nicest drawing apps for kids, very user friendly with a great set of tools for all kinds of creative drawing.

ChatterPix Kids (currently free) is a fairly new app and has moved up to the top of my favorite digital storytelling apps for creating a talking characters. What I like is how simple it is and how it takes the students through easy steps to load in the picture, draw a straight line for where you want the mouth to be, and record 30 seconds.  When done you can add filters and stickers onto the face.  Finally you can type – yes! – so students can add their names to their projects!  Finished projects can be saved to the camera roll.  We definitely will be using this one again!
